From the beginning, Courtney provided a safe and non-judgmental space where I could openly talk about my challenges with food. Her knowledge of eating disorders, coupled with her compassionate approach, helped me not only develop a more balanced relationship with food but also understand the root causes of my struggles.
Thanks to Nourishing New York, I’ve made significant strides in my recovery. With Courtney's guidance, I now have the tools and support I need to continue healing, and to make recovery a sustainable and life-long practice.
From the beginning, Courtney provided a safe and non-judgmental space where I could openly talk about my challenges with food. Her knowledge of eating disorders, coupled with her compassionate approach, helped me not only develop a more balanced relationship with food but also understand the root causes of my struggles.
One of the tools I use in my recovery is logging my food. The app makes logging quite simple and relatively painless. Secrecy is death to recovery, and I have found the logging both keeps me accountable and provides security.
Even more important has been the weekly one-on-one time with my dietician Alexa. Through these sessions I have developed skills which keep me in touch with my body and its needs and strategies to keep it nourished in a sustainable fashion. I have also found valuable the synergistic way that our work in these sessions is connected to my work with my mental healthcare providers.
In providing me with tools to use in my recovery, I appreciate how the people at Nourishing NY treat me with dignity and respect by letting me shape my recovery for myself. Feeling uplifted rather than regulated has helped build my confidence in my recovery.
With Mia's guidance, food is now just background noise. It's no longer the ultimate enemy. Mia really helped me to understand and apply the concepts of intuitive eating, even when I felt like it would never be possible for me. She is compassionate and understanding, and has been able to provide me with specific tools to nurture my relationship with food.
My relationship with my body is still very much a work in progress to this day, but I don't feel alone with Mia in my corner. I have someone with whom I can share my most uncomfortable thoughts and feelings... someone who never judges or condemns, but listens and initiates thoughtful discussions on recognizing such cognitive distortions. I am incredibly grateful for Mia!
Now almost a year in, I continue to value my sessions with my dietitian who helps connect our sessions to my daily life and my ongoing work with my mental health therapist. I find myself constantly recommending Nourishing NY to friends and colleagues, and think so many would find value in their practice.
Helping me through navigating insulin resistance and PCOS, she finally made it super simple and not intimidating to reshape how I think about food for my body. Super grateful for her and also for nourishing New York who has been helpful through navigating insurance coverage, as well!
Alexa, and Nourishing NY as a whole, helped me feel confident, flexible and self-compassionate around eating. Alexa has guided me through challenges, encouraged new perspectives and empowered me to create healthier habits. I am so grateful for the difference Alexa has made in my life and highly recommend Nourishing NY due to their strategies, support and insightful guidance. They have changed the trajectory of my life tremendously!
In working with Mia I've experienced many breakthroughs, large and small, that ultimately have shown me the life I can lead by feeding and trusting my body. These have come in forms that might seem nonsensical to others, but to me amount to overcoming fear and doubt about myself and my body that have followed me for nearly my entire life. I've been able to experience joy around food, my body, and life in general in ways I hadn't thought possible, and with Mia's support and caring guidance I've learned what being nourished, both in my body and my soul, feels like, to a much greater degree. I never thought this was possible!
Two years in, and I am now in a place I have wanted to be for so long, thanks to working with Alexa. I have been able to build new, sustainable habits, challenge old restrictive rules and thought patterns, and learned so much about myself in the process. I look forward to each weekly session as I know with Alexa I have a kind, knowledgeable provider who helps me push through discomfort and is there to cheer me on at every win, no matter how big or small. I am much more comfortable navigating a grocery store, eating intuitively and listening to my body (and eating breakfast every day — a huge win for me!). Alexa very quickly made my recovery journey feel grounded, achieveable, and like I could make long, lasting changes — the opposite of how I felt before I began working with her.
Even in the hard weeks, it is so much easier now for me to push back against the perfectionism that colored everything about my relationship to food, my body, and myself for so long, and I’m even more grateful that the hard weeks are rarer and rarer as time goes on. Working with Alexa and Nourishing NY has been, hands-down, one of the best choices I have made for my mental and emotional health. I only wish I had started sooner!
Courtney has helped guide me to take steps that are helping me recover and doing so in a kind and compassionate way. It is clear her and her team are more than qualified to work with clients with eating disorders, something I cannot say about other dietitians I have worked with in the past. I am very excited about healing my relationship with food and getting my life back, something I finally feel is possible since I have started working with Courtney.
Through every stage of my recovery, Courtney gently guided me to see that I am more than a body, and more than a meal. Her consistent presence reminded me that it is okay to accept the imperfectness of healing, and that my progress does not need to be predictable. With her help, I’ve begun to truly believe that I am allowed to take up space, and to embrace neutrality. I would also like to highlight my work with another dietician, Alana Weisman, who without missing a beat, picked up where Courtney left off during her maternity leave. A truly gifted dietician who was able to make me feel at ease and comfortable during a turbulent time.
Each clinician approaches each session with thoughtfulness, non judgmentalness, and humanity. They met me where I was and walked beside me with patience and empathy. I will always be grateful for their roles in my journey—their support has been life-changing, and I can’t recommend Nourishing NY enough to anyone seeking help with an eating disorder.
